Book sales are storming along in the run up to Christmas, mainly driven by my mother who has made sure that even third cousins twice removed will have a copy of Jandal Prints in their stocking this year. Our aim is to make the Christmas bestseller lists, normally reserved for celebrity cook books and Nobel literature winners, but will hopefully this year be dominated by US! (That’s ‘us’ not ‘USA’). Anyway, to those of you who have bought the book, we hope you enjoy it, and please give us any feedback so we can improve for version two. Yes, watch out world! There will be a sequel….

The book has had a great first couple of weeks. It was only released into stores on 30th October (we thought all you wonderful contributors deserved the first glimpse and go at it) and sales have been romping along. Admittedly, there has been a few moments of bookseller confusion because some still had the “old-never-went-to-print” version listed in their system. But once everyone lays eyes on the final product, there is no confusion… it screams “Buy me! You will laugh, marvel, learn and maybe even cry”.

Due to demand, we’re installing a buying function on this site. I have been off the grid the past week, doing jandals related tasks and partaking in jandal related behaviour (moving, recovering from jetlag, exploring my new neighbourhood, maybe a glass of vino or two) so now that I am back and can speed the technos up a bit, we should be live for online buying in 24 hours.

Speaking of live, TVNZ have been getting behind Jandals too. Here is a link to Jane and I on the Good Morning Show: http://tvnz.co.nz/good-morning/goodmorning-s2009-e051109-jandalprints-video-3114894

And Media 7 launch coverage:

http://tvnz.co.nz/media7/s3-e17-video-3139636

More media coverage… I’ll update it soon. You can also keep up to speed with photos, links etc on our Facebook Page.

For now, thanks for all your Jandal support everyone! Hope you’re enjoying the book, we love hearing your feedback so feel free to fire it through.

It is the most amazing feeling. I spent about half an hour stroking the first copy, before I realised I was getting strange looks from the barista. To those of you who made it along to Auckland City Library on Thursday night, thank you very much for your support, and a special thank you to Prue Kane, Matt Kennedy Good and Lachlan Forsyth for your last minute readings… the audience loved them! Sales are already going strong – we sold over 1,200 in our first day – and with your help, this pace can continue.

The book is simply beautiful and will make a great Christmas present, and remember that proceeds from book sales go to the Espoir Trust, a charity that actively encourages youth to pursue their ambitions, travel the world, and provide a positive contribution to our society.

Above all, we hope the book encourages people to follow their dreams; because, whether you think you can or not, you’re probably right.

So the countdown is on… with less than 5 hours until the launch, temperatures are rising, pulses are racing, and almost all the Jandals team are taking a pre-launch nap. It’s a weird feeling, when you’ve wanted something so much for so long and finally it is just around the corner…. it’s almost anti-climactic, and yet it’s not, because I’ve been pacing round the room like a caged animal, and I never pace.

The books have arrived – they look amazing – and I’ve yet to find a spelling mistake. Yes Keith, even your name is spelt correctly now.

Right, must go have a manicure and pre-launch glass of bubbles to calm myself down. We will update you tomorrow post launch!

Here we are, 10 days out from the launch of Jandal Prints on the Globe. Actually it is 11 days for me because I am still in Europe on the Frankfurt Fellowship (and for those adventures you can see readingreneessance.wordpress.com). The lead-up has sped by and at last count I think we had presold a large chunk of the first print-run so it will be a record pace that we enter the second print-run! Thanks to Jane, Rachel and Scott who have been burning the midnight oil to get things organised whilst I am traipsing round the European publishing world and finding myself in the wrong country etc. (Typical Jandal Prints on the Globe activities!)

For those of you that havent RSVPd to the launch please do so.

And to everyone else, get your hands on a copy of Jandal Prints on the Globe as of 30th October. It will be sold in all good (and some not so good) bookshops, but if your local bookseller hasn’t got it instock by 30th, pester them and tell them it is a must.

For now, from Germany, auf Wiedersehen.

By the way, you can now join and follow us on Facebook and Twitter… I’ll find out how to link it all up

There have been highs, lows, unexpected disruptions, great discoveries, new friendships and connections, even missed flights and lost cargo. Most importantly there have been great stories: the essence of this book.

“Jandal Prints on the Globe” captures the great overseas experience with short stories and photography by young New Zealanders travelling the world. So how about eating wind-dried Puffin, confabulating with rabid squirrels and riding the ‘Wagon of Death’ through rural Transylvania? Where do stubborn cattle ticks and unappreciative Flemish karaoke crowds fit in?

Follow us on this site as we lead up to our official launch, and beyond. We’ll be building www.jandalprints.com as an interactive space by the day. In the mean time feel free to leave us a comment, spread the “Jandals” word and Jane, Rachel and I will do our best to keep you entertained with our posts.
